Where There's a Need--There's a Way!

When you donate money to Give to Ghana know that your money will go a long way to helping out many people in need. Please look below and see where you can help.

  • Baby Clothes
Have your kids all grown up and you don't know what to do with their baby clothes?? Please donate them to us for orphaned kids in Ghana. We can also use money to purchase clothes, blankets, etc for them while in Ghana.
In Ghana the electricity goes off every other day--this makes everything very difficult--as you can imagine. These LED lights are so cheap yet so effective. They are battery operated and can be placed around the home to bring light when the electricity is off.
Malaria is the cause of many deaths in Africa and also much sickness. Simply having a mosquito net could be the difference between life and death. This gift costs so little and yet can make such a big difference. We are looking for donated nets and also money that we can buy nets to bring to Ghana.
Since computers/laptops are hard to pack in suitcases and expensive to buy we are looking for people to donate used computers or laptops. We are also looking for people to be able to ship them to my brother-in-law, Mike, who will be living in Ghana at the time and teaching at Okomfo Anokye Secondary School in Wiamoase, Ghana. Please contact Mike Strayer at mike.strayer[a]gmail.com for more information and the shipping address. You can also leave a comment on this blog for us to be in contact with you.
  • Cloth Diapers
These can be donated and even made. This might be a fun activity to get together with some friends, cut out some cloth diaper patterns, and then make a bunch of cloth diapers for babies in Africa.
  • Baby Formula
This is an item we can actually buy in Ghana but need the donated money in order to purchase the large amounts of formula needed for the children in the local orphanages.
  • Medical Supplies (of any kind)
medical supplies cannot be purchased in Ghana so there is a great need for everything from the simplest thing as Vaseline to glass slides for a Microscope. Other things include: Neosporin, Band-Aids, Hydrogen Peroxide, Hand Sanitizer, Syringes, Alcohol (bottles) and much more. If you have any connection to a Doctor, Nurse, or Hospital we could use any donated medical supplies that they are willing to give us.
  • Glasses
It is very difficult to get glasses in Africa. You can go to a local Dollar Store, Walmart, Target etc. and get those fake glasses/reading glasses for very cheap. These are greatly needed and they are able to put the prescription lenses in them.
  • Soccer Balls
I don't think I need to explain to you that Soccer is passion in Ghana. However getting good soccer balls is very hard. So kids will find whatever they can to use as a ball to play soccer. Imagine what a few nice soccer balls for the kids to play with would do for them!
  • Uniforms (sets for a team of 10-12)
As I mentioned above Soccer is a favorite pastime for Ghanaian kids. They like to play against each other on teams but they never have enough of the same jerseys to actually fit an entire team. We are looking for sets of soccer uniforms so that the kids can play each other and know who is what team. The colors don't matter and we don't mind if they are old or used soccer jerseys from your high school or community team.
You would never know that such a simple thing like a pen would light up the eyes of kid. In Ghana pens are like candy to the children--they just can't get enough. So do us a favor and help us bring smiles to kids by donating pens or money to buy them.
This is a large and expensive supply that is greatly needed in Ghana. As we cannot bring such an item over in our suitcases we are looking for someone to donate and then ship this item again to my brother-in-law Mike Strayer. Please contact him at mike.strayer@gmail.com for more information and for the shipping address. You can also leave a comment on this blog for us to be in contact with you.
It is VERY hot in Ghana and battery operated fans are in great demand. Because the electricity is on and off in Ghana having battery operated fans is much more convenient. We would ideally like to be able to have on battery operated fan in each of the hospital rooms where Chelsea will be working. Again these would need to be donated or bought and then shipped to Chelsea so that she can bring them to the local hospital. Please contact Chelsea Strayer at csstrayer@gmail.com for more details and the shipping address. You can also leave a comment on this blog for us to be in touch with you.

  • School Fees
As you know in the States there are a lot of school fees to be paid and it is the same way in Ghana. There is a great need to help kids be able to go to school and get the education they need. By donating money to Give to Ghana we can help many of these kids pay their school fees.
  • Microscope
This is again a more expensive but GREATLY needed medical supply in Ghana. Where there is such an abundance of Malaria there is a great need to be able to look at slides and cultures through a microscope. The current Microscopes in the hospitals where my Chelsea has been working are very old and outdated. If you could donate or buy a microscope and send it Ghana that would help the doctors out there immensely. Again please contact Chelsea Strayer at csstrayer@gmail.com for more information and the shipping address. You can also leave a comment on this blog for us to connect with you.
